No plan changes and no roaming charges: you only pay for the data you choose.
What to know before travelling to France with an eSIM
If your line is with a Spanish or other EU carrier, roaming in France usually works as at home, though with fair-use limits that vary by plan. A data eSIM makes more sense when your SIM is from outside the EU, when your plan cuts data abroad, or when you want a separate data plan for the trip.
It is a common choice for people arriving in France from the Americas or other non-European countries, and for anyone linking several destinations in one trip. You install the plan before flying and it activates when you connect to the French network, with no airport shops and no card swap.
In cities such as Paris, Lyon or Marseille mobile coverage is usually good. In mountain or rural areas it can vary, so if you are heading to the Alps, the Pyrenees or the countryside, download offline maps before you leave.
Tips for your trip to France
- Check your plan first. See how much roaming data your carrier gives you inside the EU. If it falls short, or your line is from outside the EU, the eSIM gives you a fixed plan.
- Install it before you leave. Scan the QR code on wifi at home. The plan's validity starts counting when you connect to the network at your destination, not when you buy it.
- Turn on data roaming. Choose the eSIM as your data line and enable roaming on it. Keep your main SIM for calls and texts.
